The power for our servers and equipment that run our clients’ websites is 100% offset by our purchase of Renewable Energy Certificates (RECs). With one of our hosting plans you can be proud to know you are doing something good for our environment by supporting existing wind farms and the creation of new ones to produce clean, renewable energy!
We continually purchase enough Renewable Energy Certificates (RECs) to be carbon neutral, which means we offset all of energy used by the servers and other hardware used to host our clients’ websites, our own websites and the energy used by our office equipment with clean, renewable wind energy. In fact, we actually offset 125% of our energy used.
In addition to offsetting the energy used by the servers, the company we have partnered with to manage our servers is also a green company. For every new web hosting account, they plant a tree! They have partnered with MokuGift and the UN Environment Program for this project. Planting trees through these groups has the added benefit of teaching sustainable agriculture in impoverished parts of the world.
Additionally, due to the nature of both their company and ours, we are able to have employees that work remotely. Not only do they not have to drive to work, there is no main office or office equipment that needs to be heated, cooled and lighted every day, year round. Our employees work on their own computers and in their own homes, which is far more efficient then having them drive to a separate space and use an additional set of computer equipment. A remote workforce, as both our companies employ, is the greenest possible option for a company.
What are Renewable Energy Certificates?
A Renewable Energy Certificate represents one megawatt hour (MWh) of renewable electricity generated and delivered somewhere on the power grid. Each MWh of clean renewable electricity results in one less MWh of dirty power. Therefore a Renewable Energy Certificate also represents the environmental benefits of replacing dirty power with clean power. Purchase of RECs supports existing wind farms and the creation of new ones. Anyone can buy them, and we encourage you to join us!
